He left AMTL in 1996 to take a position as OBT’s Business Development Director. He was subsequently promoted to Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (1999) and was again promoted to President and CEO in 2004. He led OBT out of R&D and into the market, reaching profitable operations in 2011.

Fred H. Williams, MD, Gastroenterologist, Medical Director
Dr. Williams is a practicing Board Certified Gastroenterologist and co-owner of Gateway Gastroenterology in St. Louis. He has served as a Medical Advisor to OBT for 10 years. Post-funding Dr. Williams and OBT will expand his role to Medical Director. Dr. Williams is a graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and has been awarded and served numerous appointments in his career including Asst. Professor of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Bethesda; Asst. Professor of Medicine, University of Texas, San Antonio; Asst. Professor of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston; and Asst. Chairman, Dept. of Gastroenterology, Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, Lackland AFB, Texas.
Dr. Williams combines integrative medicine and specific alternative therapies with traditional medicine in his progressive practice of gastroenterology, emphasizing an overall wellness approach in addressing medical problems seeking prevention where possible rather than the traditional role of most medical specialists of reacting to disease. He believes sound nutrition and healthy lifestyle therapy are keys to improving all medical conditions. For this reason he has been a user and advocate of OBT’s work since he first tested LEAPTM in his own practice in 2004. He has assisted OBT in developing lifestyle-based solutions for patients with chronic conditions and symptomology linked to food and chemical-induced inflammation.
Dr. Williams is deeply committed to making LEAPTM a new evidence-based standard of care for mainstream medicine, and is working with OBT to identify and appoint a dynamic group of mainstream specialist physicians to serve as a guiding Medical Advisory Board in conjunction with OBT’s efforts to create a new, broadly representative Advisory Board in Medical Nutrition Therapy.
Michael A. McLean, Ph.D., Nutrition and Dietetics, (Incoming) Director, Laboratory and Technology
Dr. McLean has over 30 years of broad experience in laboratory technology including serology, chemistry, microbiology and immunohematology. He began his laboratory career working with OBT Founder and Retiring Laboratory Director Dr. Mark J. Pasula in the 1980’s developing the original ALCAT test. He later became the Laboratory Supervisor for AMTL Corp. where he served for five years before joining OBT in 2001. Dr. McLean participated in the development of the MRTTM test while serving as Dr. Pasula’s Laboratory Supervisor. In 2010 he was recruited by Cell Science Systems, Inc. to serve as Laboratory Manager, and to assist in expanding its test offerings into other areas such as serology. He worked in that capacity until 2015 when – seeing the lack of growth and quality controls at CSS – he resigned and took a position with Physicians Lab, Inc. of Boca Raton to serve as its Serology Laboratory Supervisor. Dr. McLean also began developing his own medical nutrition therapy practice, for which he reached out to OBT to become a provider of MRTTM testing.
Dr. McLean currently serves as the transitional Director, pending his sitting for the Laboratory Director examinations for both specialties of Hematology and Serology in the spring of 2017.
When Dr. McLean receives his director’s license, OBT will begin developing its new Serology Laboratory. OBT intends to expand its testing services to include the adjunct testing of IgE food allergy and Celiac Screening which are in high demand among OBT’s service providers. At present OBT’s doctors and dietitians must obtain those tests from another laboratory when needed. This will allow OBT to become a one-stop shop for the core assays often needed for a complete food-immunology profile.
Dr. McLean is also experienced in developing, conducting and publishing research in this area for peer-reviewed journals, another skill set vital to his position and OBT’s business plan.
